PBIS-Positive Behavior Intervention Supports~
As we kick off the school year, I want to take a moment to explain an important aspect of our school’s approach to creating a positive learning environment: PBIS. Kaseberg Elementary was awarded a Platinum Implementation Award from the state of California last year!
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It’s a proactive approach that we use at Kaseberg to promote positive behavior and create a safe and supportive school environment. PBIS focuses on teaching students expected behaviors, rewarding them for following these expectations, and providing support when they struggle.
How Does PBIS Work?
Clear Expectations: We establish clear, consistent expectations for behavior in all areas of the school, including classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds. These expectations are taught to students at the beginning of the year and reinforced regularly.
Positive Reinforcement: We recognize and reward students for displaying positive behavior. This can be through praise, tokens, or other incentives that encourage students to keep up the good work.
Consistent Consequences: When students struggle to meet behavior expectations, we provide consistent and fair consequences. The goal is to help them learn from their mistakes and make better choices in the future.
Support Systems: We offer additional support for students who need it. This can include small group interventions, one-on-one support, or other resources to help them succeed behaviorally and academically.
Why PBIS?
PBIS helps create a positive and inclusive school culture where all students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. Research shows that schools using PBIS see a decrease in disruptive behaviors, an increase in academic performance, and a more positive school climate overall.
PBIS Spirit Week 8/19-8/23~
During the 2024/2025 school year attendance will be a big focus for our campus. It is essential that students are at school every day. You did AMAZING last year ensuring your children were in school every day. We had the best attendance rate in the district..woohoo! This positively impacts a child's academics and the resources we are able to provide for our students. Below are a few reminders going into the school year:
- Try to take vacations during our designated school breaks as much as possible.
- You are only required to stay home for an illness if you are vomiting, have diarrhea and/or a fever.
- You CAN attend school with COVID as long as you no longer have a fever.
- Please use Independent Study if you do have a preplanned vacation. LINK HERE
