Monday, November 27th

 Message from Principal Duncan~

Welcome back from a wonderful fall break!  I hope you all got to spend time with family and create some memories along the way.  My family and I had a nice little break filled with walks with our dogs, movies, Holiday decorating, and extended family time.  I am personally ready for the fun that is about to begin here at Kaseberg over the next three and a half weeks until our next break.

This month of December students will be focusing on the character trait of RESPONSIBILITY.  This will be taught in all classrooms and students will earn Caught Cha tickets for showing this trait around campus.  In addition, our 2nd -5th grade students will begin their i-Ready Diagnostic assessment which will show us how much academic growth they have had in Math and ELA over the past few months.  We are excited to see all of the growth so far!

During this month we will have many fun holiday activities on campus such as our Holiday Dress- up days and themes, the Woodcreek Holiday Assembly where every student on campus receives a gift, and our 5th-grade play/music ensemble.  I am looking forward to spending these next few weeks with your children and enjoying the holiday festivities on campus!

Important Information~

December Attendance Matters~

We're excited to share with you informative infographics that break down the various attendance notices you might receive from our school and/or district and the various terms used in them. No more deciphering hieroglyphics on these notices!

Understanding terms like "Truancy," "Unexcused Absences," and "SART" can make your life a whole lot easier. These infographics are your go-to guides, and the notices help you stay informed and on top of your child's school attendance.

But here's the key takeaway: Regular school attendance is essential for your child's academic success. Consistent attendance helps them build crucial skills and knowledge, so they can reach their full potential.

So, take a moment to check out the infographics, because every day matters! Thank you for your partnership in ensuring that every student has the best chance for success.

Our goal this month is to have a 95% attendance rate.  This means that students can only miss ONE day of school for the month of December.  Being here at school every day is essential and imperative to a student's success in school.  Let's do this!

  • Independent Study if your child is going to be absent for more than 3 days in a row.
  • Take family vacations during designated holiday breaks.
  • Continue to send your child to school with minor cold-like symptoms. (no fever and no diarrhea).
Good attendance is the #1 indicator of a student's ability to be successful in school and reading at grade level by 3rd grade.  We've got this!

Attendance Matters~

As we welcome the fall and winter seasons, I want to re-emphasize the critical importance of maintaining good attendance. These upcoming months often bring various vacations and holiday celebrations, making it essential to plan ahead and ensure your child's education and attendance remain top priorities.

Our district-wide "Every Day Matters" Attendance Campaign and “Every Day Matters” website are designed to empower you with tips and support, as well as remind us all that regular school attendance is not just a routine requirement; it is a cornerstone of a child's academic success. Missing even just a day or two can have a significant impact on learning and overall progress.

How can you establish good attendance and health habits for your child?

  • Plan Ahead: Review the school calendar to identify important dates, such as holidays and school breaks. Try to schedule family vacations and activities during these times to minimize disruptions.

  • Set a Routine: Establish a consistent daily routine for your child that includes a healthy sleep schedule, a balanced diet, regular exercise, and ample time for homework and relaxation. Ensure your child comes to school healthy and ready to learn.

  • Communicate: Encourage open communication between you, your child, and the school. If your child is unwell or facing any challenges, let the school know as soon as possible.

  • Be a Role Model: Demonstrate the value of education and a healthy lifestyle by prioritizing punctuality, attendance, and well-being in your own life. Your child will learn from your example.

  • Celebrate Achievements: Recognize and celebrate your child's achievements and milestones in their academic journey. Positive reinforcement can motivate them to attend school regularly.

Remember, every day at school counts, and your support in fostering good attendance and health habits will have a lasting impact on your child's future success. If you ever have any questions or concerns related to attendance, health, or your child's education, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school staff.

Attendance Matters:

During the 2023/2024 school year attendance will be a big focus for our campus.  It is essential that students are at school every day.  Last year 18% of our students were considered Truant, which means they missed more than 18 days of school.  This greatly impacts a child's academics and the resources we are able to provide for our students.  Below are a few reminders going into the school year:

  • Try to take vacations during our designated school breaks as much as possible.
  • You are only required to stay home for an illness if you are vomiting, have diarrhea and/or a fever.
  • Please use Independent Study if you do have a preplanned vacation.

PBIS Focus for the Month:

As a PBIS Platinum school, we focus on positively reinforcing behaviors across
campus.  We look for students to show respect, make good decisions, and solve problems appropriately.  We have added a new amazing incentive to support PBIS and that is our Book Vending Machine.  Students will receive book vending coins throughout the year for exhibiting these positive behaviors.  We hope this is a nice addition for our students that not only incentivizes their amazing behavior but also encourages a love of reading!  Go Hawks!
School Site Council Vote for Approval:
Thank you to everyone who showed interest in being on our School Site Council.  We are required to vote for approval for each member of our committee.  Please use the link below to vote for approval of each School Site Council Member.  Our official first School Site Council meeting will be on Thursday, September 14th from 2:15-3:15.

Attendance Matters~

As we embark on a new school year, I am delighted to announce the launch of the district-wide "Every Day Matters" Attendance Campaign, an initiative aimed at emphasizing the crucial role of regular school attendance in the academic success of our students.

We firmly believe that consistent attendance plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational journey of each child. It lays the foundation for their growth, fosters a sense of responsibility, and cultivates a lifelong love for learning. By attending school every day, your child gains the essential tools to overcome challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

To support you in ensuring your child's attendance remains steadfast, we have curated a wealth of valuable resources on our “Every Day Matters” website. These resources are designed to empower you with practical tips, strategies, and inspiration to encourage your child to embrace the educational journey with enthusiasm and dedication.

Our school office is always here to lend a helping hand, so do not hesitate to reach out should you require any assistance or encounter challenges in ensuring your child's consistent attendance. We understand that life can sometimes throw unexpected hurdles our way, but with your support and our unwavering commitment to your child's success, together, we can overcome any obstacles that come our way!
