Message from Principal Duncan 

This is by far my most favorite time of the year!  We are in our groove for school, the weather is getting cooler and those fall candles are lit.  It has been a pleasure this week meeting parents during our first School Site Council Meeting and seeing our students dressed up in all of their spirit gear.  

This week has reaffirmed my belief that it is so important to let those around you know how much you care, validate the work others are doing, and to lead our community with compassion.  I SEE all that our families are doing to support this community, and like a student told me this week "I BELIEVE IN YOU!"  Have a wonderful weekend!    

Important Information:

LAST Materials Deployment:

Next Thursday and Friday is our very last materials deployment until we return to in-person instruction.  Your child's teacher is gathering and preparing for the materials that your child will need for the month of October.  Materials will be deployed from the back of the MPR, the same as last time.  The dates and times are below. 

• Thursday, October 1st:  9:00 am-4:00 pm
• Friday, October 2nd: 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Progress Reports:

Your child's teacher will be sending virtually through OTUS or email their Progress Report.  As a reminder, not every student will be receiving a progress report at this time.  Only students who might receive a Limited on their first-trimester report cards will receive a Progress Report.  If you have any questions regarding the Progress Report, please reach out to your child's teacher. 

Parent Compact and Annual Notice:

If you have not already signed and returned your Annual Parent Notification paperwork, please do so ASAP.  These are required to be turned in to the front office and as of right now we only have about a 50% return rate.  I have linked below the documents, just in case you misplaced yours, or you can stop by the office and they can give you a copy to sign.

Positive Thinking Strategies from our Counselor

Our counselor Mrs.Hall is continuously adding great new resources to our Counselor Blog at Kaseberg.  This week she is focusing on Positive Thinking Strategies during Distance Learning and has added some new video to her site that we encourage our families to check out.  The link to her Blog is at the top of our Community Blog.

Happy Friday Kaseberg Families!  This was a very successful week overall for our Kaseberg Community.  We seem to have most of our tech issues resolved and I have seen so many wonderful virtual lessons taking place.  Sitting in on lessons has allowed me to appreciate the effort and attentiveness our students are putting into this new way of learning.  Our staff and teachers appreciate YOU!  Keep up the great work Hawks...

Important Information

Student Progress Reports:

Next Friday, September 25th your child's teachers will be sending virtually a Progress Report for the first 6 weeks of school.  The Progress Report will be sent via Otus email or from the teacher's work email.  Progress Reports are only required to be sent to students who are potentially going to receive a "Limited" on the Trimester Report Card, but some teachers are planning to send one to each student in their class.  Each teacher will notify you next week of their specific plan.

Spirit Week:

Next week is our first virtual Spirit Week put on by our PTC.  We cant wait to see our Kaseberg Families showing their school spirit next week.  Get ready for some fun in your zooms!  Check out each day's theme here:

Mrs.Traina's Librarian Resource Fun:

Our wonderful Librarian Mrs.Traina has created this AMAZING resource for our Kaseberg students to access during virtual learning.  It is ESSENTIAL that we build a love for reading and that our students read each night for at least 20 minutes.  Check out her website for new and upcoming books, read aloud's, and ideas to get your child excited about reading.  Kaseberg Library

Message from Mrs.Duncan:

This was a short week that zoomed by for us and it officially marks the completion of week 5 of school...I can't believe that!  Let's keep moving forward together, supporting each other, and staying positive.  We have an opportunity to make the best of this situation and it's up to us to do so.  Grateful to have our Kaseberg Community along on this journey.  Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

Chromebook Insurance:

Just as a reminder it is HIGHLY recommended that you purchase insurance for your child's chromebook.  The last day to register for insurance is September 25th.  This insurance is $24 per Chromebook and covers basically any damage that might occur.  Here is a link if you are interested. LINK

Happy Friday and welcome to our nice long Labor Day weekend!  We have a lot of important information this week and I thought it would be easier to make a video with slides explaining these items.  Please watch the video below for details for the upcoming week.  Thank you for all of your support and hard work in supporting your children during Distance Learning.  We appreciate you and your support!  Have a wonderful three day weekend and we will see you next Tuesday, September 8th virtually! 

Important Kaseberg Information 

Student Zoom Authentication: 

Parents/Students: Action is required to authenticate student accounts and needs to be completed before the start of school on Sept 8th. 

• Authenticated Participants Only: By September 8th, 2020, all students must sign-in to Zoom using their Google RCSDKIDS account to attend teacher Zoom meetings.

NEW Student Schedules:

As a reminder students will have new schedules starting Tuesday, September 8th. We are trying to provide consistency for families who have multiple children. The new schedules will be posted in Otus by 3:00pm this Friday, Sept 4th. Here are some of the highlighted changes:

• Common Recess/Snack: 10:10-10:20
• Common Lunch time: 12:00-1:00
• End of day Bell for Live Instruction is 1:40 pm

Food Services and Free Lunch:

GREAT NEWS! We have received a waiver from the USDA to feed anyone who is 18yrs old and younger for free. No names, no student ID, just show up at one of the sites that are serving meals and request a meal.  Kaseberg families can go to any of the following sites to receive their FREE meals.

 Message from Mrs.Duncan: 

Three weeks down...and you have been phenomenal during this transition to Distance Learning.  I can't believe we are already entering into September and cross our fingers we will be face-to-face by November.  Please remember that our children see how we respond to the stresses in our own lives and it is important to show optimism and calmness during stressful times.  I nightly remind myself of this when I am interacting with my own 1st and 3rd grader who are truly doing the best they can with their learning.  They too need little reminders that we are all going to be OK and that we are proud of their efforts and the work they are putting in.  Please have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all Monday!

Materials Deployment

Our next round of Curriculum Deployment is coming up this week.  We will be deploying from the MPR again, but this time from the back door.  Your child's teacher will notify you if you have items to pick up next week.  The deployment dates and times are below.    

• Thursday, September 3rd (9:00-4:00)
• Friday, September 4th (9:00-12:00)

Annual Parent Notification and Parent-School Compact

Please make sure you fill out the Kaseberg Family Notification that was deployed in the first week of school.  In this packet was a required form from families called the Annual Family Notice.  Please have this filled out and returned to our front office ASAP.  If you need a new copy we have a PDF printable version linked here.  Thank you!

Attendance Reminder

Daily attendance is required during Distance Learning, just as it would during in-person instruction.  Please ensure that you call the front office if your child will be absent for any of the following reasons, illness, quarantine, medical appointments, funerals, and administrator exemption. If your child does not log in and participate each day during live or independent sessions they will be marked as an unexcused absence, unless you call in to verify their absence is excused.

Last week we had three community members show an interest in being a part of our School Site Council Committee. To be a representative on this committee, members must be voted in. Below is a voting poll to cast your vote for this years, one additional member. Counselor Jen Hall Highlights

Our wonderful counselor Jen Hall has created a wonderful website that has a ton of different resources to support our Kaseberg Students and Families during Distance learning and In-person instruction. Kaseberg PBIS Recognition

Congratulations to the entire Kaseberg Staff for being recognized for their hard work with implementing PBIS practices during the 2019-2020 school year.  Kaseberg was one of six sites in RCSD to be recognized by CPC (California PBIS Coalition) for their PBIS Implementation in Tier 1.  GO HAWKS!!

 Message from Principal Duncan:

Happy Friday Kaseberg Families!  We are now two weeks into Distance Learning and we are starting to see the bumps in the road getting smoother.  We wanted to THANK all of our families and caregivers for the amazing work and effort you have put into supporting your children.  We know this has not been easy and we know families are truly doing the best they can under these circumstances...so THANK YOU!  I wanted to share one of my favorite books with our students and let them know how proud we are of their efforts and engagement during these past two weeks.  💓

Important Information

School Site Council Members NEEDED:  

We are looking for members to join our School Site Council for this 2020/2021 school year.  All that is required is a desire to be involved in our Kaseberg Community decisions and a willingness to meet once a month for one hour virtually with our committee.  If you are interested, please fill out the form attached no later then Thursday, August 27th.

Parent Reminders...Important:

Just as a reminder, please help your child find a quiet place for their learning as best as possible.  It has been brought to our attention that during live sessions our teachers have been able to hear side conversations and side noises from the home.  Even when your child has headphones on background noise can be heard.  Thank you again for all of your support!

If you are having technical issues with clever or Otus please refer to our Parent Support page linked HERE.  In addition, if you are having issues with your Chromebook and it is Lost, Damaged, or has been stolen,  please fill out this form and the district office will be on contact for a replacement.

Instructional Materials Deployment Dates:

Our next materials deployment date will be fast approaching before we know, so we wanted to give you a heads up of some dates to remember.  After this deployment, we will only be deploying every 4 weeks until further notice.  Your child's teacher will notify you if there will be no materials to pick up this time around.

Friday, August 14th

Congrats on making it through our first week of Distance Learning at Kaseberg Elementary.  We know that the beginning of the week started out with some bumps in the road, but as the week progressed the kinks got worked out and we showed progress.  Our staff and I have loved seeing all of your children smiling faces on zoom and we are excited to continue this journey with you.  I hope you all have a restful weekend and take a little break from technology to enjoy this VERY hot weather

Attendance Reminder

We wanted to remind you that students are required to participate and engage in their online learning each and every day for attendance.  It is essential for all students to receive daily, rigorous, and grade-level teaching.   It is also very beneficial for students to have social interactions with their peers even in a distance learning platform.  If your child does not attend class daily, they will be marked absent for the day and a robocall will be sent out at 6:00 pm daily.  Please call the front office if your child will be absent or if they engaged with distance learning during the evening due to daycare and work schedule.   Thank you again for being a partner in this new way of learning for our students.

Friday, August 7th

    We have officially made it to the first week of school!  Our staff has been spending endless hours this past week getting prepped and ready to see their students this coming Monday...THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!  We all have butterflies in our stomach with such anticipation for your virtual return to the classroom.  This is going to be a different school year, but together we will make it through and our students will be more resilient from this experience.  Enjoy this weekend with family and we look forward to seeing each of you next Monday in our virtual classrooms!

Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch:

Starting Monday, August 10th the district will be offering free lunch and breakfast to our students Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Please refer to the flyer attached for information regarding site locations.  Lunch and Breakfast Flyer

Chromebook Insurance for Your Child:

If you would like to purchase insurance for your child's Chromebook, please sign up using this link here. 

The cost is $24 per Chromebook and it can be purchased for new Chromebooks picked up this summer or Chromebooks that students had from the Spring.  The deadline for insurance registration is September 25, 2020.

Spotlight Staff, You Should Know:

Mrs.Gonzalez is our wonderful Resource Specialist teacher here at Kaseberg Elementary.  She has been apart of our Kaseberg Community for 14 years and we are so fortunate to have her here supporting our Special Education services.  Please watch her Welcome Back Video for an introduction.

Mrs.Hall is our amazing Counselor.  She is a big advocate for all of our students well being and is a valuable resource for our student's educational advancement.  She plays a large role in supporting our students with learning to mediate conflict, process problems, and support their social and emotional wellness.  If you would like to learn more about Mrs.Hall watch her Welcome Back video!     

Mrs.Cochran is our Reading Intervention teacher.   Her role at Kaseberg could not be more essential.  Daily she pushes into classrooms to support students who might need just a little bit of extra support with their reading habits.  She promotes a love of reading with each of the students that she encounters.   If you would like to learn a bit more about Mrs.Cochran watch her Welcome Back Video!

News from our Hawk Staff:

Welcome back to our new and returning Kaseberg families!  We are very excited to kick off the start of our 2020/2021 school year.  Our teachers have been anxiously awaiting your return and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces virtually in one week.  Below you will find a message from our new Principal Melissa Duncan and information regarding important future dates.  Have a wonderful last week of summer break! 

Otus and Teacher Assignments:  

Families will receive their child’s teacher assignment on Tuesday, August 4th through our new Learning Management System called Otus.  RCSD will send families directions on Tuesday, August 4th with how to login to Otus and retrieve their information.  This Learning Management System will take the place of google classroom during the school year.  It is a one-stop shop for communication with teachers, lessons/assignments, grading, and curriculum.      

Chromebook Deployment:   

If your child has not already received a Chromebook from RCSD please attend the designated Kaseberg deployment dates below.  Chromebooks will be deployed out in front of the main office.  We ask that you bring your photo ID, your own pen, wear a mask, and practice social distancing while on campus.  We encourage families to not bring children during Chromebook deployment.  Parents and guardians are the only members of the family that can pick up a Chromebook for a student. Below are the designated pick dates: 

  

• Kindergarten Deployment will be Thursday, August 6th from 2:00 pm -5:00 pm.  

• 1st grade-5th grade Deployment will be Friday, August 7th from 2:00-5:00 pm 

Virtual Back to School 

We are excited for a virtual Back to School Night this year to support social distancing and keeping our staff and families safe.  Our teachers will be sharing a Welcome Back video with additional information pertaining to this year’s Distance Learning plan, classroom procedures, supply list, etc.  On Friday, August 7th at 4:00 pm families can log in to the new Otus learning management system to view their teacher's virtual Back to School Night presentation. We hope you enjoy!     

Instructional Materials Deployment:

All student instructional materials will be deployed during the first week of school.  This means that the week of August 10th our teacher's focus will be on building relationships with our students, setting classroom expectations, and getting to know our Kaseberg families virtually.  This will create a smooth transition into curriculum-based instruction starting August 17th. 

Instructional Materials will be deployed from the Multiple Purpose Room side door.  Please ensure you are wearing a mask and practicing social distancing procedures while on campus.  Please see the different pickup window opportunities below:  

• Thursday, August 13th from 2:00 pm -5:00pm K-5th grade

• Friday, August 14th from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm K-5th grade     

• Saturday, August 15th from 9:00 am-11:00 am K-5th grade
